Conditional information

Definition of basal metabolic rate:
The basal metabolic rate (BMR) or basal energy expenditure (BEE) indicates the daily energy need (in kcal/day) while resting in a temperate environment during the post-absorptive state.

Factors influencing the basal metabolic rate:
Basal metabolism is usually the largest component of a person's total caloric needs. Stress, activity, illness, trauma, burns, and cancers can dramatically increase daily caloric requirement. The daily calorie needs is the BMR value multiplied by a factor with a value between 1.2 and 1.9, depending on the activity level.
