Result interpretation
The body mass index (BMI) was developed by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and is derived from Quetelet's equation. It assess how much an individual’s body weight departs from the norm.
Limitations:
The BMI has been criticized for being an inappropriate measure for very muscular individuals who are in excellent
physical condition, and also being inappropriate in some ethnic groups of
differing heights and stature.
Calculations alone should never dictate patient care, and are no substitute for professional judgement. See our full disclaimer.
